Followers of the Jodo Shinshu Teachings
The Stockton Buddhist Temple is a member of the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) headquarters located in San Francisco, California. BCA is affiliated with Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji Ha, also known as Nishi Hongwanji.
The temple’s membership serves the central valley’s community found in the San Joaquin valley and presently serves outlying areas such as Cortez, Tracy, Modesto and Turlock.
The Stockton Sangha, as our Buddhist community is referred to, include members from the surrounding communities of Tracy, Linden, French Camp, Brentwood, Delta Islands, and Stockton.

In Jodo Shinshu, the object of worship is Amida, the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life. The Primal Vow of Amida Buddha promises Universal Enlightenment for all beings. There is no other vow that has such sweeping power, promising hope and life's fulfillment to all. Amida's eternal activity of Wisdom and Compassion will never cease so long as beings are lost, suffering or wandering in a meaningless existence.
